My Thoughts on Education

The statistics of school based shootings are at an all-time high, and have occurred in schools nationwide. Jewish school shootings have occurred overseas and in U.S. Jewish community centers as recently as 2014, making this terrifying issue cross-cultural. The statistics produce a horrific and threatening reality: are our children safe in their schools anymore?

What measures can be done to protect our children when they are outside our direct care? This article, “A Daily Dose of Ecotherapy Eases Stress in Kids,” outlines Ecotherapy as an effective and natural therapeutic technique that should be employed for those that need it, such as children suffering from stress, whether post traumatic or not. It can be applied in a variety of settings and for a variety of reasons; I just hope it is not children suffering after a school shooting. Regardless of the reasons, Ecotherapy is a relatively new and helpful technique that could be an easier form of therapy for children.

In Kars4Kids summer camp in upstate New York, the children are surrounded by beautiful mountainous views, fresh air, and rolling hills, all conducive for relaxation and the best form of ecotherapy, bringing this article very close to home.
