My Thoughts on Education

It is almost redundant to say that today’s world is a media loving one; that as technology continues to advance, our real world connections and experiences seem to fade. This article points to the ways we, as parents, can raise our kids to still be grounded and nature loving in a media loving world.

Raising children to be nature loving, according to this article, increases a sense of wonder and curiosity, inspires new outdoor adventures, provides unstructured outdoor playtime, among other positive aspects. By surrounding our children on a daily basis with a love of outdoors, nature, and sense of wonder based on this shared love, the children can grow up not only knowledgeable of the great outdoors, but much less dependent on media/technology since they will be spending more time outside and less time glued to their devices.

It is important to note, that it is much easier to cultivate this love of the outdoors when the children are young. It is much harder to break the “couch potato” habit once the children are older!
