My Thoughts on Education

According to Ben Fogle, the government needs to introduce more outdoor education- focusing our children’s education on connecting to nature. Creating wilderness camps and schools, having free play in the open outdoors can make children more cooperative, according to the research.

With a strong focus on exams and government testing, today’s education system can make children who do not test well or do well under pressure feel horrible about themselves and lower their self esteem. This article points to a solution on the exact opposite side of the spectrum- create an education system completely focusing on the outdoors.

While this, in theory, can help children explore, be more confident, and learn teamwork, there is something to be said about the structure of a typical classroom. Perhaps a healthy mix of the two would be the most effective.
