Like father, like daughter?
Ivanka Trump took to Twitter to clarify an interview she did with Cosmopolitan on Wednesday that quickly became a testy affair.
“@Cosmopolitan, your readers do & should care about issues impacting women & children. Keep the focus where it belongs—advocating change,” Trump tweeted on Thursday.
1/3: Politics aside, I’m working to raise awareness on issues that are of critical importance to American women and families.

2/3:Regardless of who you support, policies benefiting women+families are becoming topics of mainstream conversation & that’s a good thing.

Trump was speaking about her father’s child care and maternity leave plans, issues she also spoke about during her primetime address the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.
During the interview Cosmo reporter Prachi Gupta challenged Trump’s oldest daughter on Trump’s previous comments to NBC in 2004 when he said that a pregnancy could be an inconvenience to employers like himself.
“So I think that you have a lot of negativity in these questions, and I think my father has put forth a very comprehensive and really revolutionary plan to deal with a lot of issues,” Trump said. “So I don’t know how useful it is to spend too much time with you on this if you’re going to make a comment like that.”
Ivanka Trump took exception when asked to reconcile those words with the newly released maternity plan. She also appeared to be taken aback when the reporter asked how a woman-centric family leave plan would work for same-sex couples or men who would also like to take time off to spend with their new baby.
“Well, those are your words, not mine. [Laughs.] Those are your words. The plan, right now, is focusing on mothers, whether they be in same-sex marriages or not,” she said.
