Bill Clinton, in Jerusalem for former Israeli President Shimon Peres’ funeral, met with the country’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, on Thursday evening.
A video released on Netanyahu’s YouTube channel shows the former U.S. president greeting Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, as well as posing for photographs and signing a guestbook in front of the American and Israeli flags. Clinton seems to compliment Netanyahu’s tribute to Peres in the video.
“Of all of the things that have been tweeted out, yours was my favorite,” said Clinton, whose wife, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, met with Netanyahu in the U.S. on Sunday.
Bill Clinton also sat down to chat with Netanyahu and others during the visit, according to the clip.
The two men have a fraught history — Clinton has blamed Netanyahu for the failure of his peace efforts in the 1990s, and the Israeli prime minister has accused the former president of seeking his ouster at the time.
President Barack Obama will also attend the funeral, where he is expected to speak, along with a large delegation of U.S. officials and members of Congress.
