First Lady Michelle Obama is starring in a new national radio spot, as the Democratic National Committee rolls out a bevy of ads to boost turnout among minorities just weeks before the election.
The DNC’s seven-figure ad buy will be featured on radio, print and digital outlets tailored to African-Americans, Hispanic and Asian-American and Pacific Islanders across the country.
The spot starring Obama titled “Protecting the Progress” will start running later today. In the spot, which last just over a minute, Obama hearkens back to a familiar refrain from the campaign trail: she has seen what it takes to be president and that occupying the Oval Office is no easy task.
But Democrats have stood with Barack every step of the way,” Obama says before a narrator puts a plug in for the party’s voter registration website. “Now we have to protect all the progress we made together these past eight years. When our president and Congress is led by Democrats, that’s exactly what they will do.”
More ads will be announced in the coming days, but Obama’s ad will start appearing on urban radio programs including “The Steve Harvey Show,” “The Tom Joyner Morning Show” and “Keep Hope Alive with Rev. Jesse Jackson,” among others.
Both the ad featuring the first lady and a forthcoming Hispanic media spot are produced by firms owned by people within the target community.
