My Thoughts on Education

Eric Trump on Tuesday delivered a starkly frank explanation for why his father is reluctant to release his tax returns, saying the media would obsess over them.

“They would go through every single page for the last 400 years and they would make issue of everything,” Eric Trump said Tuesday morning in an appearance on Maine’s WGAN, which was first reported by ThinkProgress. “You almost couldn’t at this point.”

Trump has said that it would be imprudent to release his returns because some of them are currently being subjected to a routine audit by the Internal Revenue Service. Hillary Clinton’s campaign has tried to up the pressure on Trump after The New York Times reported over the weekend that he reported a $916 million loss in 1995, which possibly allowed him to avoid paying personal income tax for up to 18 years.

On Tuesday, Eric Trump said Mitt Romney served as a cautionary tale.

“As soon as [Romney] released his tax returns they just killed him and they pounded him and they pounded him and they pounded him. It almost becomes a total distraction,” he said.
