My Thoughts on Education

Vice presidential nominees Tim Kaine and Mike Pence were front and center on the debate stage Tuesday night, but the focus was on Hillary Clinton and, especially, Donald Trump.

Kaine spent much of the evening trying to keep the conversation about Trump and his controversial statements; the Democratic vice presidential nominee referenced Trump 161 times in the 90-minute debate (either by saying “Trump” directly or using “he” to refer to the GOP presidential nominee). Kaine referenced Clinton 88 times.

Pence, meanwhile, brought up Clinton 70 times and Trump 72 times.

No one VP candidate dominated the speaking time at the debate. Pence spoke for 41 minutes and 53 seconds, compared to Kaine’s 39:09.
