Hillary Clinton said on Sunday Donald Trump’s new moniker for her, “Crooked Hillary,” was not even worthy of response.
“I don’t respond to Donald Trump and his string of insults against me. I can take care of myself. I look forward to running against him if he’s the Republican nominee if I am the Democratic nominee,” the Democratic presidential front-runner said on ABC’s “This Week.”
“What I am concerned about is how he goes after everybody else,” Clinton said. “He goes after women. He goes after Muslims. He goes after immigrants. He goes after people with disabilities. He is hurting our unity at home. He is undermining the values that we stand for in New York and across America, and he’s hurting us around the world.”
The former secretary of state also said she’d have to “look into” legislation by Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) that would allow families of victims of terrorism to sue officials in the countries of their attackers. The bill is opposed by the Obama administration, which claims it would open up U.S. officials to retaliatory suits.
“Obviously, we’ve got to make anyone who participates in, or supports, terrorism pay a price,” she said, “and, obviously, we’ve got to be aware of any consequences that might affect Americans, either military or civilian or our nation.”
“Unlike some people, I do try to learn what’s the core of any question before I offer an opinion because it’s not enough to say what’s wrong, I think you’ve got a responsibility to say how you’ll fix it,” she said.
ABC host George Stephanopoulos also asked her about President Barack Obama’s characterization of her use of private server for official correspondence while secretary of state as careless.
“I have not spoken to him,” about the email usage,” Clinton said. “Of course, I appreciate what he said because I have never endangered national security. That’s absolutely false. I’ve said it was a mistake. It wasn’t the best choice, and now we know Colin Powell had a private email account, aides to [Condoleezza] Rice, so I think [the FBI investigation of her email server use while secretary of state] will be resolved and, obviously, all of us will go forward knowing what we now know and making sure no one can raise any questions in the future.”
