My Thoughts on Education

This article, focused on Adventure Based Learning, offers a new and insightful way to teach students to excel in an unconventional learning atmosphere. The activities provided and focused on in ABL provide challenges in a safe setting, facilitating trust, problem solving, along with building other necessary skills.

Being that this might be the most hands on learning method out there, I think it is a great way to focus on building essential skills sets like team building, self-discovery, and goal setting among many others.  These are life skills that are used in a number of circumstances, and I commend those who take part in this new learning dynamic.

As much as this sounds good on paper, I believe more research needs to be conducted to provide necessary data on the success of the program and potential drawbacks etc. If parts of the program fail, what can they do about it to improve? I think ABL is a great way to get kids to learn essential life skills, but more research definitely needs to be done to correlate the model with increase in skills.
