My Thoughts on Education

Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence defended Donald Trump for apparently not paying any taxes for years during the presidential debate, while Democrat Tim Kaine laid into Trump on the issue.

Pence initially didn’t answer a question on whether it was fair for Trump to pay no taxes for years but was pressed by moderator Elaine Quijano to answer.

“Governor, with all due respect, the question was whether it seems fair to you that Mr. Trump said he brilliantly used the laws to pay as little tax as legally possible,” Quijano said.

“His tax returns showed that he went through a very difficult time, but he used the Tax Code just the way it’s supposed to be used. And he did it brilliantly,” Pence said in response.

“How do you know that? You haven’t seen his tax returns,” Kaine shot back.

“Because he’s created a business that’s worth billions of dollars,” Pence said.

Kaine continued to press Pence over the returns – noting “Richard Nixon released tax returns too while he was under audit” — until the moderator again jumped in.

“Gentleman, the people at home cannot understand either one of you when you speak over each other. I would please ask you to wait until it is that the other the finished,” Quijano said.
