Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta hit back at Donald Trump on Twitter on Friday, offering what he called a “safety tip” in response to the Republican presidential nominee taking to Twitter in the early morning hours to call a former Miss Universe “disgusting” for a supposed “sex tape.”
“I’m almost @realDonaldTrump’s age, so get the urge to get up in the middle of the night, but impt safety tip: don’t reach for your phone,” Podesta, who is 67, tweeted. Trump is 70.
Trump sent out a series of tweets in the wee hours of Friday morning attacking Alicia Machado, the 1996 winner of his “Miss Universe” pageant whom Trump once criticized, and continues to criticize, for gaining weight. During the nominees’ first debate on Monday, Hillary Clinton cited Trump’s behavior toward Machado as evidence of sexism, and Machado has since made TV and ad appearances on Clinton’s behalf.
