My Thoughts on Education

Noted Donald Trump critic and Iowa radio host Steve Deace went after the business mogul again on Thursday saying he and former Speaker Newt Gingrich were “dumbasses” for continuing to disparage Alicia Machado, the former Miss Universe.

In an 11-tweet storm, Deace claimed that he has never heard fellow conservatives use the type of language Trump and his allies have used to discredit Machado, including by calling her “Miss Piggy.”

“I’ve been all over the conservative movement. I’ve never heard people talk about women way Newt & Trump talked about Machado,” Deace tweeted.

Adding that the spate of profiles on Machado were an “obvious coordination,” Deace said the fact some Republicans have doubled down on their defense of Trump is mind-numbingly short sighted.

A former ardent backer of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Deace in recent days has distanced himself from the firebrand senator and continued his assaults on the Republican Party, whom he now says should change its logo to “a banana in a tail pipe.” He was such a Cruz backer that the Iowa conservative spun for the Texan after primary debates and was viewed as a key cog on the team that help lead Cruz to a caucus night victory.

But as a father with daughters of his own, Deace said that the topic of body image resonates with him.

“I’ve got teenage and tween daughters now fighting society’s expectation on female body image,” Deace tweeted. “So I’m pretty self-aware on the topic.”

Despite his insistence that such attacks are beyond the pale, Deace, in a now-deleted tweet, said that Carly Fiorina went “full vagina” during a primary debate. He later apologized for the remark.
