My Thoughts on Education

After last night’s vice-presidential debate, Republicans have looked wistfully at Mike Pence and wondered what could have been. For at least one GOP member of Congress, Pence would be the panacea to his fears about Donald Trump.

“Oh yeah in a heartbeat, in a second,” Rep. Adam Kinzinger said in response to a question from CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on if he would have voted for Pence if the former governor was running for president.

“I served with him for a couple years in the House, he’s a fantastic guy who has his head in the right spot,” Kinzinger said. “If he should ever be called upon to be president, I think he would do a fantastic job.”

Kinzinger previously said he would not support his party’s nominee, but said that Pence’s performance last night addressed many of his concerns. So much so, that he said Trump should be taking notes for his debate with Hillary Clinton this Sunday.

“If I’m Donald Trump, I’m taking lessons now from how Pence performed and the rave reviews he got, and I’m going to try to model my town hall appearance after that,” Kinzinger said.

Pence appeared to forget, or choose to ignore, his own running mate’s own words and policies last night. Such stark differences should be addressed by Trump, Kinzinger said, but the three-term congressman could not help gushing about his former colleague.

“I thought what Pence said yesterday was emblematic of where America needs to be and frankly [Sen. Tim] Kaine agreed with it,” Kinzinger said.
