This article is important for every parent to read. being hyper focused on our children’s level of intellect and how much they achieve in school is the exact opposite of a healthy way to foster growth and development. Making grades and talents the be all and end all of success brings tremendous pressure to the child. This pressure will no doubtedly one day implode.
The constant reassurance that our children are brilliant may seem like a good way to build their self esteem, when in reality, has the very opposite effect. The constant pressure to live up to those standards is practically setting up our children for failure. Instead, we should teach them to focus on the process of growth rather than the end result. Praise them for their efforts, show them how proud you are of them, and that will foster the kind of confidence that will take them far in life.
